This asset was created for an unannounced project in 2018. For this specific Bren we designed a standard magazine, as well as an extended drum magazine, shown in some of the renders.
The Bren gun was a series of light machine guns made by Britain in the 1930s and was actively used until 1992. It was used in World War II, in the Korean War and saw service throughout the latter half of the 20th century, including the 1982 Falklands War.
Given the history around this model, we really tried to perfect the look of the metals on the ammo drum magazine. When comparing the drum to the receiver, for example, we added milling lines to the machined metals on the receiver, while keeping the magazines cleaner to place emphasis on how they are manufactured and stamped. Since older guns are so crude in how they are made, texturing an asset like this is crucial, aesthetic details like age can impact the narrative of the asset.
We purposely made the wood grain quite large, to imply that the wood is rather crude, and not premium wood. We added subtle dust collection in areas where we felt it would naturally accumulate when in use. We thoroughly enjoy creating weapons like this with such a rich history, in the case of this Bren it makes the project even more interesting.
Special thanks to Kyle KR for helping us with creating this asset, it was a real pleasure.
