Texturing Tuesday / Double Barrel Shotgun
This asset was created in 2018 for an unannounced project. Modern double-barreled shotguns, also known as doubles, are almost universally break open actions, with the barrels tilting up at the rear to expose the breech ends of the barrels for unloading and reloading.
Having two barrels lets the shooter use a more open choke for near targets, and a tighter choke for distant targets, providing the optimal shot pattern for each distance.
For this double barrel, we took artistic liberties in key areas such as the wood furnishings and the primary metal materials.
Instead of the common fine grain woods often seen on these, we decided to use a large open grained wood to give it more character, and a more primitive look, with deep, rich color. Subtle milling lines were added to key areas in first person view, and wavy intricate shapes in the areas where oils cumulate to give it extra character.
