Texture Tuesday / SKS
Today we're featuring this SKS weapon asset created back in 2018 for an unannounced project. The SKS is a Soviet semi-automatic carbine known for its extreme reliability. The SKS has two unique distinguishing characteristics: a permanently attached folding bayonet, and a hinged non-detachable magazine. However, it was incapable of fully automatic fire and limited by its ten round magazine capacity, and was rendered obsolete by the introduction of the AK-47 in the 1950s.
This version is a more modern take on the SKS, we went with polymer furnishings and more modern attachments. Zach really enjoyed texturing the oily metals, plastics, and the polished bolt carrier in particular. In fact, Zach’s favorite part of creating this weapon was the exposed bolt carrier that recedes into the rear of the top cover, it gives it that unique look. Extra emphasis was placed around the magwell area to demonstrate wear and tear, you can see indications of the magazine striking the housing, as well as common markings found on these guns. It was a pleasure creating this weapon.
