This SKS gun was created for an unannounced project in 2018. The SKS is short for Samozaryadny Karabin sistemy Simonova, is a self-loading, semi-automatic carbine chambered for the 7.62×39mm round, designed in 1943.
The SKS has a conventional layout, with a wooden stock and rifle grip. Ryzin artist Zach Shertz strived to create a more modern version of the SKS, for example it has a modern synthetic stock instead of the traditional wood. We love the small but impactful details Zach incorporated into this piece, like the scuffing above the magwell in the plastic materials. Zach did an excellent job overall on the plastic material definition. Other small details such as injection molding indents, make a significant difference for realism when texturing assets like these.
The overall blend of an old weapon like this with new updated parts, is always a beautiful combo, a modern classic!
